James Laatsch, former state representative for the 47th Assembly District, joined other noted officials in endorsing Tim McCumber in the current race for the 47th Assembly District.
McCumber's endorsements include the support of immediate past Republican Party of Dane County Chairman Eric West, former Columbia County GOP Chairman Doug Fearing, Sauk County Treasurer Pat Carignan and Merrimac Town Chairman Dick Grant.
"Tim McCumber stands head and shoulders above the other candidates in the 47th Assembly District race," said Laatsch. "I have been an interested observer of the State Assembly since I represented a Columbia and Sauk County district in the Legislature during the four years coinciding with the Dreyfuss administration. Now, with Gene Hahn's pending retirement, no less than seven people have stepped forward to run for the position, and Tim is the one who has caught my eye as a successor with real potential."
"I met Tim a couple of years ago when he was church council president at Our Savior Lutheran Church and I was filling in as a guest pastor," noted Laatsch. "I know that Tim is sincere and cares about his community. What sets Tim apart in this race is his grasp of issues and the media attention his campaign has been getting because of his understanding. I have been delighted to see Tim get story after story highlighting important issues in all the local papers, in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and on radio programs like 'Up Front with Vicki McKenna.'
Tim seems able to draw more attention to key questions as a first-time candidate than many incumbents with established careers."
"What the media coverage tells me about Tim is that he has a unique ability to analyze complex matters, get to the bottom line and communicate solutions in concise terms. Remember, whoever we send to Madison to take Gene's place will be just one of 99 state representatives and 33 senators. That person's ability to understand issues, communicate with others and mobilize support will be key to his or her effectiveness.
If you are looking for someone among the seven candidates who has the potential to be a leader among his peers in Madison, then look no farther than Tim McCumber," concluded Laatch.
